If my life weren't a mixed palette of brights and blues, it would probably not feel like my life. I mean, I'm an artist. Colour is inevitable and no one loves boring, right? Especially not me.
Little things bite me in the ass on a regular basis. Ways I've been hurt. Wounds that I thought were closed start to seep a little. Reminders of things I'd rather forget.
Dabs of blue.
I have become better and better at sitting with the blueness in a state of surrender and trust. It will pass. It all passes eventually. And magentas come into play. Or that sunset orange that I can't get enough of. And the blue will shift from a Payne's Gray tint to a grinning, gregarious teal.
But, if I'm being honest, I have to tell you - when I'm in the harder, colder blues, I want to disappear. Pack up the business (and the busyness). Throw out the art supplies. Dismantle the altars. Run away from home. This is old tape, though, and it isn't a reasonable response to anything. The urge to shrink, to go dark, is an old coping mechanism that I wish to dispense with. And here's another thing I should probably mention: it doesn't work. It makes things worse. So, no. Not gonna go dark.
Instead? I aim to shine. Puff up and proud and go big and fucking shine.
So, here's some shiny.
There's a new member's only class in my network.
This is a class in which we will create a Midori Style journal cover that will accommodate your preferred paper. Learn to make either the Effydori Folder (soft cover) or the Effydori Binder (hard cover) OR BOTH, AND learn to create and use the Ultimate Notebook method of taking mixed media art classes in this three part workshop.
This is a PAY WHAT YOU CAN class. In order to register, please click here to Pay What You Can (there's no minimum). Once you've done so, click 'join' to access the class.
Can't pay at all? No worries. I am happy to share the Effydori with you. Just click to join and come on in. You can tip me later as you are able.
Please note that the Effydori is not to be taught or sold. It is for personal use only. Thank you for respecting the months and months that went in to the development of this tutorial. xo
