This is DAY SIX of MEET YOUR TEACHERS! Please click here to see Day One if you are just hearing about this fabulous collaborative e-course and want to know how it came to be!
Every day between now and November 1st, I’ll be giving you an opportunity to win a seat in Book of Days 2019 and introducing you to my guest artist teachers so you can get to know them before we begin.
On deck today are Micki Wilde, who is a main teacher next year, and Amy Carden and Sal Scheibe, who are bonus teachers!
My art is a fusion of pre-planned and intuitive work with the main aim being to create a thought provoking visual tale.
As a self confessed hermit my work to me is a source of escape from the man made world outside my door, a safe haven where fantastical dreams are born and wild animals are free to roam.
My work is approached in a lighthearted manner with the hope to charm and endear it’s characters to the onlooker and draw them in to my wondrous and whimsical world.I work with a range of different mediums but typically I use; Paint, pencils and a whole lot of love to create layers and help these stories to unfold.
“My art journal is the place I….Play, practice and perfect”
I love Micki because everything she does feels imbued with the spiritual. Her paintings always contain an air of mystery, and imagery that draws me in. Her teaching style is thorough and gentle. I know you’re going to love creating alongside her.
Amy Carden is a mixed media artist from Atlanta, Georgia, where she lives with her husband, toddler son and velcro-like cats. In 2013, she found online art classes & began playing with mixed media and learning to draw. She was interested in the intersection of spirituality and art, and exploring her beliefs in a visual way. Today, almost daily, you’ll find her arting in the tiniest bedroom in her house, which she painted purple and named Joyous Moon Studio.
“My art journal is the place where I empty my guts and create a physical representation of my emotions”
I love Amy because her style is vibrant, crisp, and meaningful. She is really good at using digital stamps and stencils to enhance her spreads, which is great for those of us who aren’t necessarily great at drawing.
A lifelong scribbler and messy doodler, Sal Scheibe works as freelance illustrator working with creative agencies and graphic designers. She paints a lot of flowers and cute little animals for work and strange mixed media ladies and zombies in her art journals for fun. She started ArtTrader Magazine and worked as the Art Director from 2007 until 2013, contributing articles and teaching online mixed media workshops. Sal also started IllustratedATCs.com, a trading site for experienced illustrators, in 2007 and created ATCsforall.com too with a group of art friends in 2008. She still trades tons of art and is always up for a swap!
“My art journal is the place I feel most safe. I can express whatever I want there and there’s no judgement about my art. It’s a place where I can absolutely suck and I never have to show it off or where I can completely shine like an art star and share with the world. All of my thoughts live in my art journals–as doodles, messy scribbles, utterly stupid ideas, brilliant concepts, silly comics or fully fledged pieces of art. My art journal is a safe place to be me.”
I. love Sal because she has mastered faces and figures, and knows how to teach us to do the same. Her colours are always a delightful surprise, and her imagery is a step away from whimsy into something a little deeper and sometimes darker.
