On A Quick Personal Note

Kiala Givehand is hosting a collaborative e-course with Tarot as the central focus. This class, called “Pull. Pen. Paint” is deeply immersive, and the Facebook Group feels like a delicious mystery school full of love and support.

The class is packed with ways to work with oracle cards & tarot, as well as ways to integrate this work into your daily life through writing & art.

My lesson will be going live shortly, and I’ll be talking (and painting) about soul cards and how to work with them in our art journals. For more information on this gentle, lovely class, please click here.

On A Personal Note

I’ve been quietly engaging my art practice so far this year – banging out spread after spread, really feeling my way into expressing my heart on the page. When I first began art journaling, it was a way to serve a desire to be creative while I had writer’s block. Now I find that, while that block was eliminated quite some time ago, visual expression has become my primary form of expression.

Prompts are great, because having them means I never lack for a reason to sit down and create, but sometimes they can mean I’m bypassing my own stuff. I let this happen. I figure if I’m avoiding the real stuff that’s happening in my life, if I’m resistant to bringing it out into the journal, there’s a reason for it. I trust my process enough to know that it will come out eventually, organically, sometimes even unexpectedly.

As long as I’m maintaining my practice, I’m content with whatever is coming out onto the page. I don’t push. I unfurl.

I hope these first ten weeks in Journal52 2017 have served you well. I love seeing the work you do, and I love hearing that some the prompts have facilitated your own deeper excavation.

In One Bad Ass Art Journal this week, my lesson on creating painted papers and then using them in your art journal went live! The work that is appearing in response to my lesson is gorgeous & inspiring, and I am absolutely thrilled.

Here’s what Tiare (our hostess) has to say about it:

One BADASS Art Journal 2017 was designed to empower you to create, to learn, to feel confident and provide you with the tools, techniques and encouragement needed to feel BADASS every day that you make art!

The theme for 2017 is: Embrace YOUR inner BADASS. You know, that BADASS who exists but perhaps you have been afraid to let out or maybe you don’t know she exists.  That BADASS who will throw the paint, try the technique, be free in her art, who will play, who will enjoy her art, who will try! That BADASS that won’t allow fear to stop her, who gets up 9 times after being knocked down 8.  Let us inspire, encourage and empower YOU to EMBRACE YOUR inner BADASS through BADASS Mixed Media Art Lessons.”

Join me and 13 other amazing teachers for $59.
